Launch of 1000+ Concerts Project!
The official launch of ‘1000+ Concerts: Innovating Higher Music Education through Social Inclusion’ took place on October 7th, 2024. This four-year project, co-funded by the European Union under the Creative Europe Culture Programme, seeks to contribute to greater social inclusion within the classical music sector by rethinking how musicians interact with marginalised communities while innovating how young musicians are educated.
The project’s kick-off meeting convened representatives from a pan-European consortium comprising ten beneficiary partners and eight associated partners, including renowned higher music education institutions, orchestras, festivals, associations, and research institutes.
“Securing this funding is an important step in advancing our efforts to make classical music more accessible and integrate this in the education of young musicians. We look forward to the work ahead, confident that this project will help bring meaningful cultural experiences to a broader audience.”, says Avri Levitan, Co-founder and Artistic Director of Lead Partner Musethica e.V. Over 40 participants attended the digital assembly to collectively establish the foundation for collaboration and confirm the roadmap for the coming years.
The 1000+ Concerts project is designed to reintroduce performance as a central component of music education, emphasising the value of performance skills and audience engagement. Through the implementation of the Musethica program, the project trains a new generation of musicians to understand themselves as an integral part of society and take responsibility for bringing live music to those least able to access it.
Over the next four years, the project will collaborate with over 120 social institutions across Europe including hospitals, prisons, refugee centres, and schools for individuals with disabilities. Through these partnerships, more than 1,000 free concerts will be provided, reaching at least 40,000 marginalised audience members.
