From Correctional Facilities to Art Galleries: 11 Concerts in Norrköping and Stockholm
During the first week of December 2024, a beautiful, intense, and emotional Musethica Session took place in Norrköping and Stockholm, Sweden. Four young string players from Germany, Sweden, and Denmark participated in Musethica for the first time and had the opportunity to rehearse and perform with Musethica's co-founder and Artistic Director, Avri Levitan.
The young musicians were violinists Adam Koch Christensen and Veronica Rädler, violist Klara Kotarsky, and cellist Frederick Winterson.
Over the course of 11 concerts, the musicians performed at an elderly care home, a special needs education school, an institution for adult special needs education, a correctional facility, a hospital clinic, and a “Second Hand Café”.
In addition, there were two very special public performances during the week at the Ståhl Collection, a modern art gallery in Norrköping, and the Nydahl Collection, a musical instrument museum in Stockholm. Audiences at all the institutions, as well as at the public concerts, were clearly delighted by the excellent musicianship and chosen masterpieces on display.
The program included Antonín Dvořák's String Quintet in E-flat Major op. 97, and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy’s String Quintet No. 2 in B-flat Major op. 87.
Some reflections from the young musicians after the experience:
“It was inspiring to meet four people and make music together for a week without knowing each other or the audiences. It challenges you to grow in different ways because you constantly find yourself in new situations and environments.” – Klara Kotarsky, viola
“Playing the same repertoire twice a day in front of an audience gives us the opportunity to observe how our body and mind react to the stress of performing, and to immediately learn from that for the next performance… All in all, it was an incredibly memorable week, with so much to take away in terms of both human/social and musical experience.” – Frederick Winterson, violoncello
