Julian Scott (born 1991 in Edinburgh) graduated from St. Anne’s College, Oxford with a first class honours degree in Music in 2012. He was taught oboe from a young age by Rosie Staniforth and Steven West in Edinburgh and Glasgow. Formerly principal oboe in the National Children’s Orchestra of Scotland and the Edinburgh Youth Orchestra, he joined the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain in 2008 and was principal oboe during the 2009/10 concert series. In Oxford, he has performed in many ensembles including the Oxford University Sinfonietta and the Oxford University Orchestra, in which he was principal oboe. Throughout his bachelors degree, Julian was taught by Christopher Cowie, principal oboist in the London Philharmonia and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields.
Julian has completed his Masters at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” Berlin, where he was taught by Jonathan Kelly, principal oboe in the Berlin Philharmonic. In Germany he plays in various ensembles including the Junge Norddeutsche Philharmonie, the Neues Kammerorchester Potsdam, and Kammersymphonie Berlin. At home in Scotland, Julian has played with the Scottish opera and BBC Scottish Symphony orchestra. This year he won a place in the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, and will be on tour with the orchestra in summer. Julian fills his free time with sports, in particular triathlon.
