Dr. Birgit Hoppe is CEO and President of the Foundation „Sozialpädagogisches Institut” (SPI) in Berlin, Germany (www.stiftung-spi.de). The Foundation’s core mission is twofold: To enable members of society to actively participate in all aspects of civil society and to encourage them to make use of the opportunities and resources available to them to lead fulfilling and productive lives. It works with all age groups, providing education, counseling, and professional development and certification, helps them actively create and connect to their community, engages them in the arts, and facilitates integration of those new to their environment. Its approach is fundamentally collaborative, fueled by the conviction that the more people actively shape their own lives and sense of place and community, the more they’ll simultaneously broaden their knowledge and skills and a sense of the possible.
Dr. Hoppe received her doctorate in psychology at the University of Berlin. She has taught at all the universities of Berlin and was a visiting professor for social gerontology at the University of Kassel. She regularly publishes on topics of civil society and educational and professional development. Musethica paradigmatically connects for her the various facets of life and thereby helps people surface and experience new ways of seeing, thinking, and living their lives.
